Welcome the New Year!

“And now we welcome the New Year, full of things that have never been.”
~Rainer Maria Rilke

This holiday season I reflected on the past year which was in many ways just plain craptastic for me and too many of my friends and family.  So I’m ringing in this New Year with emphatic joy and hope (not to get all “Chicken Soupy” on you).  Farewell 2009 – we will not miss you!  Bring on 2010!  I’ve even eaten my good luck beans, although I’m not sure who thought that was a good idea after a night of ridiculous alcohol consumption.  Anyway, here’s to brand new things (good things), exciting adventures and a new blog I’m not entirely sure what to do with – hooray!

I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, I mean I believe that people do make them and they therefore do exist, but I don’t personally believe in making them.  I’ve broken too many, then inevitably beaten myself up far more than necessary.  I do believe in setting intentions, and this year I intend to hope.  I also intend to get my shit together and do more writing and creating, hence the blog.

Happy New Year!!

Hopeflakes

We had an unexpected snow day today and I didn’t realize how childishly happy it would make me, but my heart jumped just a little tiny bit when I saw my first flakes out the window.  It wasn’t what I had planned for my afternoon, but I was soon resigned to staying in and watching the “snow event” as the weatherman said.

A good snow is rare here in the valley, and being fortunate enough to stay home in it, made it perfect.   All the childhood glee over snow returned and it didn’t have to be a hassle – I could put off chores until tomorrow and just watch little hopeflakes fall from the sky.

I am thinking about the new year, the fresh start, the hope and these snowflakes today were like magic I could catch on my tongue.
